Chickasha Golf Foundation
What’s Happening with the Chickasha Golf Course?
The Chickasha Golf Course, established in 1915, is a treasured piece of our community’s history. For 97 years, it has proudly hosted the Washita Valley Golf Tournament, the oldest continuous tournament in Oklahoma.
In recent years, the course has changed ownership multiple times. Recognizing its value to the community, the City of Chickasha has purchased the property—a wise investment that protects about 70 acres of green space within the city limits. However, the City has made it clear: they do not intend to operate the course as a golf facility.
That’s where the community steps in.
A Community Driven Proposal
A local nonprofit, the Chickasha Golf Foundation, has proposed to lease the property from the City for three years to operate it as a public golf course. This initiative is more than just about golf—it’s about preserving a way of life and creating opportunities for future generations.
Why is this important for Chickasha?
Golf is a lifelong game—from age 8 to 88. It teaches more than just swing mechanics: it instills integrity, character, discipline, honor, and respect. Without this course, our school golf teams will not have a place to practice or play—putting those programs at risk of disappearing entirely.
Access to recreation like golf isn’t just a perk—it’s a quality-of-life issue. Families and businesses consider amenities like this when deciding where to live or invest.
Without a public course, Chickasha becomes less competitive with other communities in attracting new residents, workers, and businesses.
The Chickasha Golf Course isn’t just grass and greens—it’s a part of our shared heritage. We want to preserve and improve it for today and tomorrow.
The Orville Moody Youth Practice Facility
As part of this revitalization, we plan to create the Orville Moody Youth Practice Facility—a dedicated space where young golfers can learn the game in a safe, fun, and structured environment. This facility will give kids a positive outlet and an opportunity to grow, both as athletes and individuals.
A City of Champions
Did you know Chickasha might be one of the only cities in the country that can claim both a U.S. Open Golf Champion and a U.S. Open Tennis Champion?
- Orville Moody, born and raised in Chickasha, won the 1969 U.S. Open Golf Championship. His father was the greenskeeper at this very course.
- Don McNeill, another Chickasha native, won the 1940 U.S. Open Tennis Singles Championship and the 1944 Doubles Title.
- With existing tennis courts already in place—another lifetime sport—we have the rare opportunity to honor both of these champions through a revitalized recreation complex that serves all generations.
Our Vision
We’re not just asking for help to save a golf course—we’re inviting you to be part of a larger vision:
• Preserving community heritage
• Providing healthy youth programming
• Strengthening our town’s future
• Honoring two of Chickasha’s greatest athletes
The Chickasha Golf Foundation is actively seeking funding, donations, and support to make this happen. With your help, we can honor the past, serve the present, and build for the future.
